Making an internal optical drive an external portable one
Don't want to buy an expensive external optical drive so am trying to think of how to make a SATA or IDE internal optical drive into an external one for emergencies.
Anyone know if I can get adaptors for the power and data connections?
Have Googled but no luck.
Oops found some build ideas on Youtube - should have looked there first I suppose

I use a Vantec enclosure that was pretty cheap, and it turned a $20 Samsung SATA burner into an external one, for troubleshooting or working on computers that don't have optical drives.

Thanks Deacon I'll try there as the Altech ones were fairly expensive and I specifically want one (or two) that use IDE drives as I have a pile of them here.
Just thought I would make one up for this friend who has just bought an eMachine M355 for it's size.
