CD/DVD won't open/won't recognize

So when I try to put a disc into the CD or DVD drive I am unable to open it or view it. I can feel the CD spinning within the laptop, but nothing appears on my screen.

I'm running an HP pavilion.

Did you check for a possible upper/lower filter problem: Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

Go to Control Panel>Default Programs>Change AuotoPlay Settings and see what is going on there.

Open Windows Explorer and double-click the DVD drive icon to see if the disc will launch from there.

I don't know how old your computer is, but you may have a faulty drive e.g. no laser beam to read the disc.

It could just be a cracked or dirty disc you've inserted. Have you tried a different one?
