sata hd advice

so while TRYING to reformat my drive i thought it would be a good time to upgrade my 500 gig hd to a 1 tb.

Here is my current laptop, I got it from here too
Newegg.com - Acer Aspire AS5745G-7671 NoteBook Intel Core i3 370M(2.40GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 420M

Under the hd is says it's a SATA. But looking at my 1 tb product, it says it's a SATA 3.0. Does that matter?
Newegg.com - Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD10JPVT 1TB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Thank you

Your laptop isn't able to run at SATA 6.0GB/s anyway. That drive is fine

Yes, SATA, SATA II, and SATA III are compatible with any SATA drive, however you'll only get the faster speeds with a drive and the matching SATA interface.

Whilst you are at it, why don't you look for a 7200RPM drive - Sata II or III does not matter. That would give you a bit more speed.

And more cache too. 16MB would be nice, 32MB perfect.

Well the 1 tb works out fine but i wish they'd label it correctly! in My comp it only says 800 gig. Where'd the other 200 go??

The 1TB in decimal (that is what is on the package) is 930GB in binary which should show in Computer - both are 1 trillion bytes. But 800GB is not right. How is the drive formatted - NTFS or Fat32.

Which drive did you end up getting, exactly? (Just curious - it may have something to do with the missing disk space or it may not...)

Please post an image of your hard disk from disk management. This should give an idea of space available and free space.

Right click on Computer, select Manage -Disk Management.

Use the Snipping Tool from Start - All Programs - Accessories.
