Weird Keyboard Problem: 1 key types twice

    Hello,
    Here is a tough one:
One of my keys types twice (same character twice) every time.
    Solutions tried:
    1) Different keyboard. Same problem.
    2) Different language keyboard settings. Same problem.
    3) DOS Prompt. Problem disappears.
    4) Safe Mode: Problem disappears. (see #5)

    5) Clear Boot: same problem.
    I am completely confused.

    Who can help?
    thx.

    ""1 key types twice1 key""

Just one specific key? Or this happens with any key?

Yes. Only one key. The square left bracket which gives me "ê" in French.

Just a quick add'l question or two: you can ignore if your problem is resolved.

    1) is this a new system that has always produced this behavior, or did it start at a particular point in time (addition of a language package)
    2) any info on brand or custom parts may be helpful, and you might as well enter some of them in your system stats anyway:)
    3) any H/W updates at the time it started, by you or anyone else. Even adding memory, or opening the case.
    4) you mentioned that multiple KBs produced similar results, were they all USB (or all PS2), or did you get the same result from both ports.

My money's on the driver issue, but it could be a H/W conflict, or something as minor & unrelated as a memory stick thats not seated correctly. The questions might not at first seem logically able to describe something like that but I've seen some weird stuff!

Good luck, hope to hear that you fixed it,
    Mike

1)Yes, it started about a week or two ago.
    2) Dell Vostro 3500 x64 Win 7 Pro
    3) No H/W changes
    4) Problems with laptop KB and USB KB

I deleted and re-installed the keyboard driver as described in prior post but problem remains.

While it seems somewhat insignificant (no to offend you) It looks like all the easier thoughts are checked off, and while I love troubleshooting odd problems like this, I must fight the diagnostician in me and say your going to just have to occasionally use an extra backspace key. So I and others can help people with problems more like exploding computers But as I do remain interested - esp. in light of the responses you gave I will keep your issue on the tip of my mind and let you know If I hear or think of anything. I'd appreciate if you made a final post if you fix it (explaining how!) or If you make any decent headway. I'll answer any questions you need help with or grab someone who can.

I hope you get lucky...or wise! and fix it!
    Good Luck,
    Mike

You told this happens from 2 weeks ago? Go back in time to a restorepoint let's say 5 weeks ago. Does it still has the problem then? Undo the system restore afterwards. Post results please
