Windows 7 HP- no option for dual monitors after new drive/restore

My laptop was recently having a lot of problems and it seemed to be from a faulty hard drive. I was unable to find my operating system disks which I know may cause a problem in the future. I got my hard drive replaced by a local computer repair business and they replaced the faulty drive as well as uploaded a version of Windows which I'm not completely sure of the specific version yet. I have noticed some differences the format of the default windows preferences and when I tried to connect another monitor via a VGA cable it won't display it. Before there was always an option for an extended display but now a drop down menu for resolution and display. I also never had to install any drivers or anything it would just recognize it and I could do what I please. It still says that I have Windows Home Premium but I still don't have the option.
Here are my computer stats from dx.diag.exe-

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD.
System Model: Q430/Q530
BIOS: Phoenix SecureCore(tm) NB Version 02KF.M008.20100529.KSJ
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 450 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 3956MB RAM
Page File: 1314MB used, 6596MB available
Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
User DPI Setting: Using System DPI
System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled
DxDiag Version: 6.01.7601.17514 64bit Unicode

I am currently trying to find out what this local computer repair business uploaded on my computer and will post it as soon as I found out. If there is any other information that you might need to help me figure out this problem please let me know.
Thanks in advance,
Michael Hill

Hi, bornbritish.
First try to validate the install here: Genuine Microsoft Software
Click on Validate Windows button on top left.

I did what you said and it seems to be validated. It downloaded some update packages and I restarted my computer but it didn't change anything.

Please provide the make and model of the laptop in question, bornbritish. We can hopefully sort your graphics problem by installing the driver(s) for you graphics card from the manufacturers website. It may be that the graphics driver(s) are not the only hardware issues. Please post a sreenshot of Device Manager with Show hidden devices selected. If it takes more than one pic to cover the content, post what is necessary.
Thanks...

I posted an attachment of the device manager (I didn't know how much you wanted me to expand) and the display tab of the dxdiag

It would appear that the display adaptor is not properly recognized by Windows.
Go here:Samsung
Grab the Chipset and VGA drivers. Install the Chipset driver first. Reboot after each install.
Notice in the screenshot that there is a button circled in white at the top right. Choose your regional preferences.

EDIT: Choose x86 or X64 bit drivers....

I downloaded the chipset and it seemed to work. But when I download the VGA driver and hit setup and the end it says this...

Did you right-click the .zip file and Extract All...?

If so...
Try installing the VGA driver as administrator (right-click > Run as administrator) in Safe Mode.

Yea I extracted all and it didnt seem to work after I clicked setup.exe like the download instructions said. I tried it again as 'run as administrator' but not in safe mode. So should I restart my computer in safe mode and then try the download again as administrator or what? Also, does it matter where I save it as long as its my c drive?

It may be a bumb download. I have never had to install a driver in Safe Mode; it was just a suggestion. Try redownloading it and attempt to install.
I notice that there are two VGA downloads offered for x64 bit: See if the other one will work.
EDIT: It may be worth visiting the Intel website to try to find the appropriate driver.
There is an Nvidia site for you graphics card (NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 310 M) as well. If you want to give it a stab, go here:http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_drivers.html
and find the button "Automatically Find Drivers For My NVIDIA-Powered Notebook."
