Windows 7 - Printer performance advice

I want to replace my lightly-used but elderly HP1510 with a psc costing say £40 to £90. Retired domestic use, about 20 copies and 20 scans per week, not much photo printing.
The choice is huge but my main concern is that I will not think to ask all the right questions when selecting. For instance I read in a review that .jpg scans from the HP5510 are 'not left open' for future photo-editing. I do a lot of that but wouldn't have thought to ask because I assumed that they all do it.
Is there a good website that will give me answers unprompted, to questions like the one above that I haven't thought to ask?
