Most users would be better off with the 6100 because it is noticeably faster at most tasks.

But,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I don't know how much better it is for gaming purposes alone. Maybe very little. The 6100 has 6 cores rather than 4 for the 4100, but that may have little effect on gaming.

Gamers are often better off spending money on a graphics upgrade rather than a processor upgrade.

I don't know any details about your budget, so it's hard to make a recommendation.

Personally, I would always buy the most powerful processor that was within my budget, but that may not apply to you due to your emphasis on gaming.

I'd suggest you join some gaming or AMD forums and see what they say. You might try a post on the gaming forum on this site.

i put emphisis on gaming becuase the crowd is much larger than the 3d development crowd, to be honest, i do alot of 3d dev also, so more cores will be helpful. but like you said, it may not be as good for gaming, ill do some research on some other forums to find out, i play allot of games, but to be honest, i run at about 60% on my x4 3.4ghz when playing BF3 so i think my bigger issue is finding a substantial upgrade that kindof has the best of both worlds, more cores and less cpu during gaming and better frame rate processing. in the way of my graphics card, my card is prety d*** good.
