WOW!!! Look at what's happened to HDD prices!

I remember reading about a month ago of the flooding in Thailand, and how it would impact HDD prices as 25% of the worlds production was affected. I looked at newegg last night and prices have doubled in the last month! Guess, I will postpone that purchase of a NAS!!!

The good new is that this isnt going to affect prices of SSD's, as most are made in North America. It may actually drive more system builders to move to SSD's as the price per GB narrows between them and mechanical HDD's. This would be welcome as it would increase production and likely lower SSD prices even further narrowing the gap even more.

Skyrocketing price of mechanical hard drives

NAS systems havent really been effected in the UK. a 1tb buffalo system is still around £80. Mainly because 1000's of these were sat on the shelf before the crisis, and they just still havent sold that rapidly.

I want an empty NAS box to add HDDs to including some that already have data on them!
