| Windows 7: Why isn't my camcorder recognised by my PC |

Why isn't my camcorder recognised by my PC Since installing Win 7, I have not been able to import DV from my tape-based camcorder (Canon MV630i). I use an iLink cable. The PC makes a sound acknowledging a connection, but it does not show up anywhere, and none of my programs recognise the camera. I tried using an analogue/DV device (again firewire linked) - sometimes it recognises the camera via the device, but always says there is no tape in my camera!
I am so frustrated. If anyone can help, I would be so grateful! Alan | My System Specs |

No drivers I have tried the Canon website. All I am offered is the instruction manual in various languages and updates to programs I don't use. I have been trying to solve this for weeks and have run out of options. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate N 64bit |

It is most likely a driver problem then. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

What software are you using to bring in the computer?
From what I have read on canon web site, pinnacle studio came free with that camcorder. If your using that, do you have the latest version? Also read there is an option for USB. Tried that?
Now this is a long shot but had a Sony dv camcorder years back. If I had photos on the memory card, I had to unload them first, then delete them before the software would recognize the video using FireWire. It was a PITA but worked. Try removing the card if you have one installed. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built OS Win7 Pro 64 CPU 2 X5670 2.93 Westmere processors Motherboard SuperMicro X8DTI-F Memory 48GB Graphics Card Ati 6950 Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2408wfp Hard Drives 256 SSD,1tb & 2tb spinner drives |

Driver & software (replies) I think it may be a driver problem - but where to get them? Any suggestions, anyone? I did wonder that if they are not offered, they are not necessary with Win 7, but no-one seems to have expressed that opinion.
I have used Adobe Premiere Elements for several years, though originally I used Pinnacle Studio.
I have tried the USB option, but that is only for the card contents, not the DV tape. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate N 64bit Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built OS Win7 Pro 64 CPU 2 X5670 2.93 Westmere processors Motherboard SuperMicro X8DTI-F Memory 48GB Graphics Card Ati 6950 Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2408wfp Hard Drives 256 SSD,1tb & 2tb spinner drives |

Ah - following that link above, eventually I found a document that says that this camcorder is NOT supported. Does that mean I can't use it with Win 7? Does anyone have any suggestions if that is the case? | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate N 64bit Why isn't my camcorder recognised by my PC problems? All times are GMT -5.
