It should work - SATA-III is backward-compatible to SATA-II so your SSD would work, but it would still transfer data over the controller interface at SATA-II speed only.
That's assuming your SSD isn't actually a SATA-III drive, of course.
But it's possible that you're simply running into a rare incompatibility between the SSD and the controller. In any case, unless this is a very high-performance drive you won't really notice the difference by sticking with a SATA-II port instead.
It doesn't sound like anything you can really influence with the BIOS, and AHCI won't have anything to do with it anyway. What you could try is updating the SSD's firmware to the latest version, which is a good idea anyway. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom-built OS Windows 7 Professional SP1 32-bit CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz, overclocked to 2.7GHz Motherboard Asus PL5D2 Memory 3GB DDR2-667 (2x1GB + 2x512MB in dual-channel config) Graphics Card nVidia GeForce 9800 GT Sound Card on-board Realtek HD Monitor(s) Displays LG W2261 Screen Resolution 1920x1200 (DVI) Keyboard Standard Mouse Microsoft wireless optical mouse PSU Antec TruePower 2.0 Case Cooler Master Centurion Cooling various fans Hard Drives OCZ SSD Vertex Plus 60GB SATA (Firmware 3.55), 64MB cache

The SDD is a Vertex 3 it has the latest firmware version... the controller is a Marvell which i understand is not optimal... but they should be compatible none the less...as a side note my regular HDD does not boot either when plugged into the SATA3 port...very strange | My System Specs

Are you using a sata3 cable?
Not sure if that matters, I know a sata3 cable can be used on a sata2 device, but unsure what would happen if a sata3 device was plugged into a sata3 port with a sata2 cable. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Built by badgers!!! It shouldn't be this hard to get something to work, so i sent it back for a refund. You would think waiting to the second or third gen they would work right out of the box. Just my 2 cents.
You haven't posted your system spec's so it's kinda hard to determine your problem, but as you can see in my upper post the Vertex 3 has a Sandforce SF-2281 controller which has been problematic for people w/ NVidia motherboards. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 730 OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit CPU Intel Core 2 quad Extreme Q9770 @ 3.2 GHz Memory 4x2 GB Muskin 1600 MHz ram Graphics Card NVidia GTX 250 Sound Card Soundblaster X-Fi Fatality Champion Monitor(s) Displays 2 Dell 2007WFP Ultrascans Screen Resolution 3360 x 1050 Keyboard MS Natrual Keyboard Pro Mouse Logitech Wireless Trackball PSU 1000 Watt Cooling air Hard Drives WD Black 1TB sata, 2-WD Black 500 sata, 2-Seagate 500 Go external Internet Speed DSL Elite |

- 6 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors (SATA2_0, SATA2_1, SATA2_2, SATA2_3, SATA2_4, SATA2_5) supporting up to 6 SATA 3Gb/s devices
- Support for SATA RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 10, and JBOD
Marvell 9128 chip: - 2 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors (GSATA3_6, GSATA3_7) supporting up to 2 SATA 6Gb/s devices
- Support for SATA RAID 0 and RAID 1
* SATA3 RAID 0 4x and SATA3 2x performance are maximum theoretical values. Actual performance may vary by system configuration.
* SATA3 SSDs are not recommended for use in RAID 0 mode on Marvell SE9128 ports. Not sure if the warning at the end applies, but I thought I'd highlight it.
I'm actually surprised no SATA-2 ports are listed here. According to these specs, everything is SATA-3 except the eSATA ports. I'm starting to think you simply thought the chipset-internal SATA ports were SATA-2, but you really don't get any performance loss from using them instead of the Marvell SATA ports.

no offense but i think you got confused by the word play... sata3 and sata 3 gb/s is not the same thing, the MOBO has
6 SATA '3gb/s'
and
2 SATA3 '6gb/s
im not using the sata3 ports in RAID
and there not working at all even with a single HDD or SSD | My System Specs | | SSD wont boot through sata3 problems? All times are GMT -5. The time now is 01:03 PM.
