second Hardrive not showing in bios/disk management

    Hi there,

So I am here because I am having some hard drive problems. Firstly for my Primary drive i am still running my old 250gb Hard drive (with windows already installed on this drive). Secondly, for my slave drive i have a Samsung Spinpoint 1TB Hard drive that wont display in my bios or in disk management. The 1TB drive seems to spin up fine etc. but i just can get it to display so i was just wondering if someone here could help me get this to work so i can format this new disk. Also i must add that my motherboard is an ASUS p8z68-v-pro board.

    Thanks in advance

check the connections--make sure that the drive is connected to one of the BLUE sata3 ports (there should be 4) and NOT to the GRAY sata6 ports (should be 2 ports)

it is also possible that you 'might' need to update your BIOS (but this could be a bit extreme) or firmware--see:

    Hi Tman,

    Thanks for your reply!

Currently the 1TB drive is connected to the blue port "sata3g_3"with a 3gb's sata cable. I am currently running bios 0902 and have just noticed there is a recent bios update. I will try an update and see how it goes and will post back ASAP.

    Cheers

tman is right. You have a Sata connection problem. The power apparently works, else it would not spin.

Correct me if I'm wrong .... but I have 2 drives SATA3 connected into the SATA6 ports and they are working fine ... isn't SATA6 backward compatible .... just trying to get some clarification

wow now im confused.. haha, ok so ill try break it down again as to how im running before my bios upgrade.

my master 250gb drive (with windows) is connected to my "sata3g_4"port.
and my new drive the 1TB (drive not working) is connected to my "sata3g_3"port, both drives are connected with sata 3gb/s cables and in bios mode i have AHCI enabled. Hope this helps ?

    Cheers

You can use the Sata3 ports. They are indeed backward compatible. But I would try IDE in lieu of AHCI. And check that the Sata cable is really well connected - on both ends.

have you tryed moving the drive from port 4 to another port say port 3 just to make sure port 4 on your board is not bad?
