Just a Question about LGA 775

Hello everyone, I was looking to (maybe) upgrade my old dell with a Intel Core 2 Quad: Intel® Core). But ! It says compatible socket: LGA 775 ok, My old Pentium 4 has a LGA 775 (cpu-z) says that, but if I look at the Intel site: Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 530/530J supporting HT Technology (1M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)) they say that it is a PLGA775 socket. But :S will the quad core fit in my socket??

Because you have a branded (Dell, HP Gateway) computer, CPU's are generally NOT upgradeable, because the motherboard & BIOS are configured for a very limited range of CPU's. Another Pentium 4-5xx might work. Any Socket775 CPU will physically fit, but may not be electrically compatible.

So, to answer your question: yes it will fit. But... it will not work & will likely damage the CPU & possibly the motherboard.

PLGA (Plastic Land Grid Array) describes how the core is packaged onto the chip, and LGA (Land Grid Array) is the type of socket the whole thing plugs into.
There is also OLGA, Organic Land Grid Array.
But they all use Socket 775.

To determine what processor will work on your motherboard you should be checking the motherboard's information. The motherboard has to have the correct socket but the BIOS has to support the particular processor. Many times they update the BIOS to add new supported processors.

Now Dell is always "fun" because they don't make it easy to find out who manufactured your particular motherboard for them. If you can't find the make and model number directly then you need to search on the surface of the motherboard to find a number to google.

That's true and yeah the BIOS is from 2005 so I think it's impossible it will support that Quad Core cpu
