    You may have Auto-Play Disabled:

    Head over to Control Panel: Select Auto-Play.

    Next select "Use Auto Play for all media and devices".

    And in each dropdown box select Ask me every time.

    I connected 1G USB pen drive, autoplay shows up

    I think this person has the same problem as you, try following the instructions from here:

    Why is your drive Icon an invalid Icon?

    Try an System File Checker Scan or a ChkDsk scan please.

    did you try to dual boot Xubuntu with win 7?
