PC case front panel USB malfunction

Hello,
I recently got a brand new computer case and today when I inserted external HDD, the computer reseted itself.HDD is working fine in motherboard USB ports, but when I want to connect the HDD device from front panel, the screen suddenly goes back and computer restarts. In device manager there is no problem discovered.
It resets even if I touch the USB port with the HDD connector. It can't be short circuit right ?
If somebody got an idea to fix this please post here I would highly appreciate it.

Sometimes it's an idea to disable legacy USB devices in the board BIOS, but in your case I suspect your front ports are not powered and the amount of current the drive needs causes the instability and restart.

Consider using a powered USB hub or extension USB cable linked to a rear motherboard port.

I saw a video in youtube and he told me I should shut down and unplug the power cable from power supply and then plug it back in.After that those front panel USB ports are working fine.
any ideas ?

after some half an hour again trying to connect HDD and computer resets - same problem.
When i try to connect lower power device ( keyboard stick) then it works fine...
What could the problem be ?
I am very worried about it.

It even doesn't restart it blacks out and then starts like traditional vista and 7 asking if i want to start windows normally etc...

Front USB ports aren't powered like one's physically attached to the motherboard.

That means they cannot support devices which are power hungry.

I've suggested you consider a USB extension cable, running from the mainboard rear ports, or a powered USB hub (many monitors have these built into them nowadays).

but how come that my old case front panel's USB ports with the same motherboard could handle with the same HDD ?
and still the new case works sometimes and sometimes not ?

Perhaps the new cases front port cables are not of the same quality. Maybe you have connected to a different USB header. There might be a fault in the front port array. Does your new case have the same power supply and all the same powered components as were in the old case?

You didn't specifically give all the relevant information in your opening post.

Based on what you have provided an actual diagnosis can't be given, merely possible cause.

Yes, all parts are the same, just a new case.

The new case uses the old case's front USB ports array?
