dwa- 556 D- link pci express adapter problem

I have the wireless adapter working fine, well it was working fine. the strength of the connection was only 2 bars for some reason as of late. i have other computers and theyre all fine. so i assume maybe i can fix it by installing the drivers for it. the moment i install it the computer stops recognizing that i even have the wireless card hooked into my mother board! did the driver installation break it? because even it when it was supposedly done installing it claimed that i needed to actually plug the thing in! even though it was working fine a minute ago. ive tried running the program but it wont even acknowledge my clicking. i tried unplugging and plugging the hardware in and that didnt work, i even changed its slots. i dont know what to do short of just reloading windows on it and skipping every using the driver cd.

ugh, anyone else with similar problems?

After checking the card specs...it says it's for Vista and I don't see anything for or about Windows 7. So that might be the problem.
