Windows 7: Asus K53E-A1 FN hotkeys problem?

This is my first post on this site, and I'm taking the time to make my own post because I've searched all over the internet and couldn't find a solution that has helped.

This hasn't been a recurring issue, is has just occurred for some mysterious reason. Basically, my fn keys aren't displaying on top of the fn keys for sound (muting, lower, higher) [F10,F11,F12] are not working at all. What I mean by displaying is that before whenever I changed the brightness or the sound it would display it on the screen over anything I was doing. It would show my current brightness or volume status and it would show it going up or down if I changed it to do so.

On top of this none of the function hotkeys for sound are working. At first I thought I was at a loss and unable to change the sound at all, but I'm still able to change it with the sound mixer. I didn't know if it wasn't working at first because it wouldn't display it, but when playing something I tested it out and it didn't change the volume or mute it.

Any help on these problems would be incredibly helpful, I am running windows 7 home premium (64-bit) with an Asus K53E-A1 laptop. Thank you.
