Laptop causes all CD Roms to vibrate, none will work

Greetings,

New to this forum, hope someone can help.

I have a Dell Latitude D610 (old). CD Rom drive vibrates like crazy, will not play. Took another drive, put that in, same thing.

Took the original drive, put it in another laptop, and it works fine.

I am baffled. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

I'm sure you already checked with swapping etc. to make sure it was connected properly. No loose cable plugs. Make sure the end of the cable is plugged in tight on the mother board also. Data cable and power cables.

One of the cables could be bad. Making intermittent connection. At least a possibility.

Does it do this on both AC power and battery power?

Laptops have pretty much a standard internal modular port which carries the power and data, similar to this

You could save yourself allot of headaches buy looking at purchasing an external USB DVD Drive which are fairly cheap nowadays +- £15 for a run of the mill ext DVD writer

Problem solved.

I am assuming that some foreign object was in there. As we swapped drives, finally, they are all working OK now.

Thanx for all of the suggestions.

Thanks for the update. Glad you have it sorted.

PooMan

I wasn't sure if they were modular or not.
Got it straight now!
Thanks.
