Windows 7: Why don't m$ make it so disconnected mapped network drives

Why don't m$ make it so disconnected mapped network drives

Why doesn't M$ make it so when you click a disconnected mapped network drive it doesn't lock up the whole explorer window for like 20 seconds?
I know they are like toal noobs, but come on, why can't you click other stuff insteada the "not responding"
