Windows logo key on keyboard not bringing up the windows start menu

So the windows key on my keyboard for some reason just stopped working which is a pain. ctrl+esc still opens the menu. But I'd like the shortcut back.

    - I have checked the regedt32 - currentcontrolset etc and have no scanmap file in there so I know I never turned it off.

    Thanks in advance.

I think your best bet is to try another keyboard if you have one.

If the problem disappears that suggests you have a suspect key on the original keyboard.

If the problem doesn't go away you can assume it's a Windows problem.

Is there any dirt on the keyboard and have you checked whether the Windows key sticks?

Failing that, you could try a system restore to a point in time before the problem occurred.

You don't by any chance have a media keyboard that has a windows button disabling feature?
On my keyboard if I enable "cyborg mode" by touching the cyborg logo, all windows related keys stop working, so you can't accidentally exit full screen applications like games.
