CDRom no longer recognized. Heya.
My CDrom has suddenly stopped working, windows no longer recognizes it.
I have tried replacing the cables, plugging it into a different port and replaced the CDrom all together with one that I know works.
It will power up during the initial boot.
Awhile ago it was announced that the P8P67 Motherboards had a defect or something? Story Here, Im not sure if that relates to my issue.
Other then that the only thing I can think of would be a driver related problem. If that's the case, what can I do.
Edit:
It doesn't even show in the Device Manager anymore, the only thing the computer shows regarding the CDrom is this entry in the event viewer.
"The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
cdrom"

There is a fix-it for XP, and Vista, but for win 7 it wants the user to run the Hardware troubleshooter first, and then if that does not work re-install the CD player. See the note under the fix-it button: The link under the Windows 7 takes you here
This is harder to explain than to just say......
Go to the troubleshooter in control panel,
Under Hardware and Sounds click on Configure a device.
Click on Advanced >click for automatically fix, and run as Admin.
Start troubleshooter, if it is not fixed, then you have to re-install the player.
It tells how about half way down the page here: Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

Thanks for the reply Anak.
I cant reinstall the device because it doesn't show up in the device manager.
I went to the directory in the registry just to check, I don't have an Upper/Lower filter key, if that means anything. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Home 64bit CPU i7-2600 Quad Core @ 3.40GHz Motherboard Asus P8P67Pro Memory 4 GB Graphics Card GTX 570 Monitor(s) Displays 22" Wide "BenQ FP22W" | 23" Wide "Samsung SyncMaster" Screen Resolution 1680x1050 | 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitec G15 Mouse Logitec G9 PSU SST-ST75F-P Cooling Fans Hard Drives 120GB - OCZ-VERTEX2 (SSD)

You may very well be included in that recall. You need to find out if that Intel Cougar Point Chipset is on your motherboard.
Get all the information you can on that P8P67 Motherboard, do you still have all the papers that came with it? That is a start.
Here is: Support for the Intel® Processor Identification Utility
If you have it, then contact Asus to see what can be done about it.

Ugh.
Did a little digging around, my board is one of the affected ones.
The CDRom is connected to one of the affected ports.
How long does the warranty last for ASUS boards? I've had it for just over a year now.
IIRC it should be 3 years?
Anyway, Thanks for the help, guess I'll have to call ASUS tomorrow. >.< | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Home 64bit CPU i7-2600 Quad Core @ 3.40GHz Motherboard Asus P8P67Pro Memory 4 GB Graphics Card GTX 570 Monitor(s) Displays 22" Wide "BenQ FP22W" | 23" Wide "Samsung SyncMaster" Screen Resolution 1680x1050 | 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitec G15 Mouse Logitec G9 PSU SST-ST75F-P Cooling Fans Hard Drives 120GB - OCZ-VERTEX2 (SSD)

ASUS mobo warranty is 3 years from date of purchase. They are honoring the affected boards and will likely do so beyond the 3 year period since it is an Intel chip that was defective. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built Desktop By DataTech OS Windows 7 Ultimate X64 SP1 CPU Intel i5-2550K, Differing ~4.4-4.8GHz No built in GPU Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Memory 16GB G.Skill Sniper 2133MHz 4x4GB Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 460 Sound Card Onboard Realtek 5-1 Monitor(s) Displays Samsung P2570HD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Old, beat-up Dell USB From 10 yrs Ago Mouse Gigabyte m6900 wired PSU Corsair HX650W Case Inwin Dragon Rider Cooling Hyper 212 EVO w/two Noctua fans, push-pull, @1300 RPM Hard Drives Crucial M4 128GB for OS, 750GB Seagate MomentusXT for data, 500GB Seagate Constellation for storage Internet Speed 8-19 Mbs down, 3-4 Mbs up Comcast Cable Antivirus Norton Internet Security Browser IE 9, Opera when needed Other Info 4 case fans, LG BluRay-RE, ASUS DVD-RW, Mr. Fusion power generator with flux capacitor, 1.21 gigawatts. |

Hi, I'm also experiencing a problem my my ODD and it happens that I have an Asus P8P67 which I bought online on 7th of April 2011. The MB box mentioned "Rev B3". I suppose this means the Intel SB problem has been fixed right ? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Core i5 2500K Motherboard Asus P8P67 Memory Corsair Dominator 8 Go DDR3-SDRAM PC12800 CL8 Graphics Card Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 - VaporX - 1024 Mo GDDR5 Monitor(s) Displays HP2207w Screen Resolution 1680x1050 PSU Seasonic X-760 Case Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 Cooling Noctua NH-U9B SE2 Hard Drives 1 SSD 2.5'' MLC X25-M Postville - 80 Go

I do not know for for sure. I remember April was about the time I was concerned about the issue, and in the next month or two reading how there were affected MB's still out in the wild.
Best I can tell you is to, enter the serial number of your MB into the Serial number verification tool, it is below the "Affected motherboard models" matrix, and see if it is affected.
If it is, there are Hotline numbers listed on that page. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Gateway DX4831e (Mid-Tower Desktop) OS Win 7 Home Premium 64bit Ver 6.1.7600 Build 7601 - SP1 CPU Intel i3 530 2.93GHz, 2933MHz 2 Cores 4 Logical Processors Motherboard Gateway H57M01 133 megahertz Memory 6GB of 1,333MHz DDR3 SDRAM Graphics Card 32MB Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD IGChip Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Gateway HX2000 20inch TFT active matrix TN Screen Resolution 1600 x 900 x 59 hertz Keyboard MS 'Natural' Standard PS/2 Enhanced 101-102 Key Mouse Gateway USB wired optical PSU 300watts.
