Internal HDD failure? error STOP: 0X0000007B (0XF78D663C,0XC0000034...
Happy New Year sevenforums! A new year, a new PC problem I hope you can help me.
I own 2 PC's - The one running 7 which is listed in my profile, the other was donated by my workplace to practise Avid Media Composer 3, which only runs on XP so this second PC runs XP and it is the primary internal HDD that I believe has failed. The XP HDD are 2 identical Seagate 500Gb Barracuda 7200.11's, the secondary drive is a slave for all the Avid media files.
The story so far:
1. When I tried to boot my XP PC this morning I got the following error "Invalid / Non System Disk error"
2. I tried to boot from my XP OS disc to run a repair on Windows XP. The OS disc was recognised and began to copy files then I got the following BSOD message:
3. This made me think there is a sudden and serious problem with my primary internal HDD. Fortunately I already own a USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE adapter so I removed the faulty drive and tried to see if I could get it to be recognised on my 7 PC. It is not recognised. The drive spins up, there are no bad sounds, no 'clicking' The drive feels like it is 'laboring' though, that is to say spinning faster and slower, it feels like it is quietly 'throbbing' if that makes sense.A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard controllers. Check yur hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHDSL F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer. Technical information; ***STOP: 0X0000007B (0XF78D663C, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)
4. By way of a control test I also removed the XP PC's secondary drive and tried it with the USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE adapter. It was recognised, and still works just fine.
5.So I guess it's safe to conclude my primary internal HDD is the route of my problems!
So please if you can help I'm basically looking for any advice you guys can give me to attempt to breath life back into this drive or am I basically screwed?
One thing is certain, I won't be buying any more Seagate drives, this is the second one to fail me in the last 3 months!
