Have a WD2500JB HD in an Acomdata Samba 3.5" USB 2.0 Enclosure that I took out of my old Dell (XPOS) machine that I would like to use as storage, etc for my new Win 7 OS computer-see system specs. This drive works fine on a laptop I have but it wont register in disk or device manager. I do see an additional USB Mass storage device but it has the yellow triangle over it. When I check this I get "cannot start-Code 10". I have uninstalled the device, turned off HD then turned back on and watched the installation of device
driver software concluding with"device
driver software not successfully installed-please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance". When I UPDATE
DRIVER I get "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date".
A check with Western Digital reveals no compatibility issues noted with Win 7. Same with Acomdata re: their powered enclosure. WD states"We do not include
drivers as they use standard driver built into the OS" I have run the Data Lifeguard Diagnostic on the WD drive and it passed. My USB port is new and works fine on other items I have tried. I have run the Fix-it tool/hardware repair-"problem noted with USB driver for Mass storage device-re-install" As noted above, this proved unproductive. I have done a driver update scan-none needed. I keep encountering the Code 10 issue and have followed all recommended solutions to no avail.
I turn to this forum as you have been helpful to me in the past with sticky issues I just cant seem to fathom. Usually, the answer is a simple one that I have overlooked and am hoping that is the case on this occasion. Thank you.
