i fail to understand... a wifi key is a unique number or pre designated code to access your wireless device. its cant crash or freeze as it is what it is.. just a password

What OP is saying is that theres a physical key that s/he uses to enable the wireless connection and they're wondering how to do it w/o that key.

    Tiya,

Try enabling it from the control panel.

Replace "key" with on off "button" and I think you will get the picture.
My Acer Aspire has a dedicated button or keyboard key if you will, to turn the internal WIFI adapter on and off. It's to save power and extend the battery if you are not connected to the Internet. I just turned my WIFI adapter off with the button and have yet to find away to turn it back on without pressing the on off button again.

Hiya Pal. If you could fill in your system spec in full it would make it easier for us to help you out
But if the button is totally broken and you can't turn it back on then maybe a fairly cheap and painless option would be to purchase a Mini USB wi-fi adapter ... hope this helps :)

To really sort it out we need more info and a few questions answered. It could be just a driver problem. I know on my Acer Aspire a lot of those custom special function keys didn't work until I installed the drivers. I don't remember if the WIFI key was one of them though. I have noticed though that if I use that button to turn the adapter off I can't turn it back on any other way.
What I would like to know is, did it ever work before?
Is this a new windows 7 install?
Was it an upgrade or clean install?
    Were all the drivers installed?
Is anything flagged in device manager as having a problem?
System specs would be nice too.
