Need Help with finding a Part for a Laptop.

Hi,

My friend has recently shoved a screw drive (by accdient) through the keyboard ribbon connector haha. Needs to know where he can find a replacement cage/bracket that the ribbon connects too under the keyboard.

The pc is a DELL INSPIRON MINI 1018 - Link is below of the specs

Dare I suggest Dell? If they're good for nothing else, you can rely on Dell for parts, and you can count on them being unique to Dell much of the time... a ribbon connector won't cost much...

its just the slot that the cable fits into that needs replacing. i'm sure that he has tried dell and they don't supply them ahah.. typical dell.

Saying "typical Dell" is somewhat of an oxymoron... they're famous for using parts nobody else does... hence getting spares is fine, as long as you choose Dell as the supplier; every time... and if that means you need a new mainboard or keyboard just to get a port socket, hey... that's fair enough!

The keyboard cable plugs into the "System board". Documentation
You probably need to replace the entire board. Documentation

The boards can be found refurbished on ebay and new on Amazon. I was able to find them in the US. They may be harder to find in your area, though.

I agree. If it is the actual port that the ribbon cable attaches to, then he'll be paying for his learning lesson in the form of a new motherboard.

My Dell Latitude display is fading in the upper third. It works fine with an external monitor. I attached a picture. Is it fixable? I googled and saw that I can relatively easily replace the inverter ($ 60) or the fluorescent bulb ($10). however, those would cause the screen to be all black or...
