Dare I suggest Dell? If they're good for nothing else, you can rely on Dell for parts, and you can count on them being unique to Dell much of the time... a ribbon connector won't cost much... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built machine OS W7 x64 CPU Intel Q9300 2.5Ghz Quad LGA775 (Would like Q9650) Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3R (F6 Bios) Memory 4Gb OCZ Gold 1,333Mhz Graphics Card Palit HD4850 O/C Sonic 512Mb DDR3, Dual DViD's Sound Card Azalia to twin Samson 50w Studio Monitors Monitor(s) Displays Twin Dell (E-IPS) U2311H 23.6" Screens Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz Keyboard Cherry PS/2 custom model Mouse Logitech M500 Laser Mouse PSU OCZ 600w Case Lian-Li PC8 acoustifoamed' aluminium tower Cooling Scythe 140mm Zipang Hard Drives Twin 1Tb Barracuda archivage, Twin TV/PVR 2Tb Samsungs, (80Gb Barracuda for the OS, but SSD envisaged...) Saying "typical Dell" is somewhat of an oxymoron... they're famous for using parts nobody else does... hence getting spares is fine, as long as you choose Dell as the supplier; every time... and if that means you need a new mainboard or keyboard just to get a port socket, hey... that's fair enough! | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built machine OS W7 x64 CPU Intel Q9300 2.5Ghz Quad LGA775 (Would like Q9650) Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3R (F6 Bios) Memory 4Gb OCZ Gold 1,333Mhz Graphics Card Palit HD4850 O/C Sonic 512Mb DDR3, Dual DViD's Sound Card Azalia to twin Samson 50w Studio Monitors Monitor(s) Displays Twin Dell (E-IPS) U2311H 23.6" Screens Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz Keyboard Cherry PS/2 custom model Mouse Logitech M500 Laser Mouse PSU OCZ 600w Case Lian-Li PC8 acoustifoamed' aluminium tower Cooling Scythe 140mm Zipang Hard Drives Twin 1Tb Barracuda archivage, Twin TV/PVR 2Tb Samsungs, (80Gb Barracuda for the OS, but SSD envisaged...) The keyboard cable plugs into the "System board". Documentation
You probably need to replace the entire board. Documentation
The boards can be found refurbished on ebay and new on Amazon. I was able to find them in the US. They may be harder to find in your area, though. I agree. If it is the actual port that the ribbon cable attaches to, then he'll be paying for his learning lesson in the form of a new motherboard. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Intel Core i7-2600 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3P-B3 Memory 12 GB Patriot Extreme DDR3-1333 Graphics Card Nvidia GTX 470 Monitor(s) Displays Dell UltraSharp 2209WA PSU OCZ ModStream 700W Case CoolerMaster HAF 912 Advanced Cooling CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus Hard Drives OCZ Agility3 240 GB, WD5001AALS, WD7501AALS Need Help with finding a Part for a Laptop. problems?
