Optical drives operating at sata 1 speed 1.5gb/s

Hi,

I have three optical drives, connected to sata 2 ports on my Z68X-UD3R mobo.

A LG DVD Drive GH22NS30, Firmware v2.00, added 2009
A LG Bluray writer BH10LS30 firmware v1.00, added 2010
A LiteOn Bluray writer iHBS212 2 firmware 5L09, added 2011

According to my Intel rapid storage technology application these are all running at 1.5gb/s.

Shouldn't these be running at 3.0gb/s, sata 2 speed?

If so, any ideas on how I could get them to run at sata 2?

Or is it typical of optical drives to run at 1.5gb/s

thanks
Tanya

SATA is backwards compatible. I think these are SATA 1 devices, but would have to double check to be sure

Good damnit!! It took a while to track down the specs, LG don't like to publish their specs... But you are right. They are SATA 1 devices.

I figured, since they were so new that they would at least be sata 2.

My bad. Sorry for wasting everyone's time.

I've been reading up on drives for the last few hours, and even drives as much as $400 are all still using sata 1. Interesting that in this day and age, optical technology seems to be so far behind. Anyway, nuff said.

Hi.. I'm running Win7 Home Premium (64-bit) with Intel i7 chip, 8Mb RAM, onboard graphics. My Liteon DVD-writer is only a few months old and performs all its functions without fuss - except one. When I load a DVD-RW or DVD-R containing only 'jpg' images, it takes an age to read them. It won't allow...

AHCI mode no boot from sata optical drives
A strange problem, nothing critical, but I found it annoying that my optical sata drives will not boot from a bootable disk when in AHCI mode in Bios. If I switch the drive mode to native IDE then I can boot just fine from either of the Opitcal Sata drives. I have done some searching and found...

SATA VS PATA Optical Drives
Currently, I have 3 optical drives installed in my primary rig, and never paid too much attention, until now, because I have been doing a lot of work with all 3. The PATA is a Samsung SH-S202N, and the SATA are both LGs. All 3 seem to perform about the same, once a disk is actually running, but...
