Unknown Device

I realize that this is a very vague issue, but I just built my desktop and don't know where to start with this issue. With my laptop, the fix for this issue was to download RICOH Media Driver and the unknown device would go away. However, when I searched for the driver to install it on my desktop, it says that the driver is for laptops only (or so I think that's what I read). I need pointed in the right direction before I start troubleshooting a bunch of different things.

Try disabling the UAC, then install the original driver using Vista compatiblity mode...

I don't know what the driver is though. I can say that when I unplug the SD card reader, the issue goes away. So maybe there is a bad connection in the device? It's weird because when I plug in my flash drive to the port, it gets power but the computer doesn't read it.

Look in device manager, right click on the unknown device, select properties from the list, on the Details tap, select hardware ID's from the drop down box, copy the numbers listed.

There aren't any numbers. It just says, "USB\UNKNOWN."

this tutorial may help: Device Manager - Finding Unknown Devices

it's a bit techy though, but it's next to impossible for us to help much more as it could be one of many many things...

What if any devices are plugged into the the USB ports?
Does it have a card reader?
Web Cam?
Special keyboard?

I tried plugging a USB into the port but it wasn't read by the computer. My keyboard and mouse are plugged into the back but they are working fine.

If there are no numbers, try Device Instance Path from the drop down.
