i want to replace my hard drive with a larger one. if i clone my HD to the bigger one, is that legal?

As long as it is still the same system and all you are replacing is the hard drive, yes, it is legal. :)

I sure hope so, I do it all the time. But, writhziden is right, as long as it is on the same computer.
