I often plug a VCR into my Hauppauge tuner card to capture video to transfer to DVD.

When I do this I use the 75 ohm coaxial cable to connect from VCR out to the Analog In on the tuner card. This works well.

I recall initially trying to connect the VCR to the card using the RCA cable connections and having problems with that and abandoning the idea.

So if you can't connect the camera to the PVR through coax then you may need to find a gender changer cable, play with it until you get it, or contact Hauppauge for any pointers. Getting legacy equipment to play nice with modern devices is always a head banger.

I have messed with just about everything I can think of and the lag is still there.
I can not figure out what happened after the seconds record. Everything was fine and now the preview lags and the recorded clip lags but the camera is still playing.

Well, Im not sure. It worked perfectly two times.
Also, if it adds anything I am trying it again right now but the preview in MediaExtreme froze and now my entire computer is frozen. I keep thinking it is the program, maybe run in comparability mode?

Yes, as a general rule whenever I am dealing with a balky program one of the first things I try is a clean reinstall (of the program, not W7). I uninstall the program in the usual way (Control Panel) and then run CCleaner to remove any stragglers. Then I reinstall the program. Sometimes an install just goes badly.

If the program was written pre W7, and especially if it was pre Vista, then it would be a very good idea to install it in compatibility mode. Use the most current OS the program says it will run on.

I have the same device as ZenixNet, and I have found that the device can have overheating problems. I keep mine up on a CD spindle to keep it elevated off any surfaces and give it lots of airflow. Given the initial installation problems, I would also do as TVeblen suggests. HD video is finicky through that device as is, so any little problem is going to be magnified with software issues.

I realize this is an old thread but maybe this will help someone. I also am copying from an old Sony Hi8 camcorder through the Hauppauge 1212 HD PVR. From discussions with others it seems the problem is with spikes coming from the camera will cause the Hauppauge to lock up which will also lock up the software. The problem is more prevalent on long videos. Some things that sometimes help is to clean the heads on the camera (it is old and kinda dirty) and to rewind the tape to retension it.
I finally got all my videos converted over. If I hadn't, I was going to try putting the 8mm tapes in a VHS adapter and try to record from a VCR.
