Sounds like you have a faulty power supply.
Do you have a multimeter to check the voltages? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavilion Elite 495UK OS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-Bit CPU Intel Core i7 870 @ 2.93GHz Motherboard MSI 2A9C (CPU1) Memory 8Gb Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 664MHz Graphics Card nVidia GeForce GTX 460 1024MB dedicated RAM Sound Card Realtek HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays HP2310i Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard Logitech K750 solar-powered keyboard Mouse Logitech Wireless M180 mouse PSU 460W Case HP Elite Cooling Air cooled Hard Drives 1x1954GB Hitachi HDS22020ALA 330 (RAID), 1x1954GB Hitachi External for backup and storage Internet Speed 2Mb Other Info Pure Avanti Flow Internet Radio with iPod Dock, 64Gb iPod, HP USB Speakers, Sony MDR-V500 Headphones, Sony Vaio F-Series Laptop |

Have you checked the numbering on the RAM slots? The latest Asus boards have it backwards, the first ones are toward the edge of the board. From the photo i saw yours does too. I don't know this particular board but the ones i've tested don't even boot without the first banks populated. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home brewed OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit CPU Core2Quad Q6600 Motherboard Asus P5N-E sli Memory 4GB DDR 2 Adata Graphics Card 2x GF9800GT 1024MB/256bit Sound Card Creative SB Live! 5.1 PCI Monitor(s) Displays LG Flatron W245 Screen Resolution 1920x1200 PSU FSP Blue Storm II 500W Case Antec Twelve Hundred Hard Drives Maxtor STM3250820AS; 2xSamsung SP2014N; Seagate ST310005AS; 2xSeagate ST3120026AS; WesternDigital WD10EARS; WesternDigital WD1600AAJB; WesternDigital WD2500JS Other Info additional PCIE JMB363 SATA+IDE controller |
