Replace Pentium 4 CPU hi,
i have an old pc with an Intel Pentium 4 CPU @2.53 GHz (Core Northwood) on an ASUS P4P8X, and an old notebook with an Intel Pentium 4 @2.80 GHz (Core Prescott).
The notebook is an Acer Travelmate 2500.
can I put notebook's CPU in my other PC?
the two CPU have the same socket

That board supports Prescott CPU's but it may require a BIOS update. http://www.asus.com/999/html/events/...e/overview.htm
A Prescott will run hotter, need decent cooling, and consume more power.
It might help if you had the precise Intel part numbers (eg; SL76Y format). | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built machine OS W7 x64 CPU Intel Q9300 2.5Ghz Quad LGA775 (Would like Q9650) Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3R (F6 Bios) Memory 4Gb OCZ Gold 1,333Mhz Graphics Card Palit HD4850 O/C Sonic 512Mb DDR3, Dual DViD's Sound Card Azalia to twin Samson 50w Studio Monitors Monitor(s) Displays Twin Dell (E-IPS) U2311H 23.6" Screens Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz Keyboard Cherry PS/2 custom model Mouse Logitech M500 Laser Mouse PSU OCZ 600w Case Lian-Li PC8 acoustifoamed' aluminium tower Cooling Scythe 140mm Zipang Hard Drives Twin 1Tb Barracuda archivage, Twin TV/PVR 2Tb Samsungs, (80Gb Barracuda for the OS, but SSD envisaged...) Be aware that some laptop vendors have been known to solder in their processors. I don't know if that practice is still done today, but it was somewhat common with older laptops. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Intel Core i7-2600 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3P-B3 Memory 12 GB Patriot Extreme DDR3-1333 Graphics Card Nvidia GTX 470 Monitor(s) Displays Dell UltraSharp 2209WA PSU OCZ ModStream 700W Case CoolerMaster HAF 912 Advanced Cooling CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus Hard Drives OCZ Agility3 240 GB, WD5001AALS, WD7501AALS |

Cooling should be ok too
