    Replace Pentium 4 CPU

    hi,
i have an old pc with an Intel Pentium 4 CPU @2.53 GHz (Core Northwood) on an ASUS P4P8X, and an old notebook with an Intel Pentium 4 @2.80 GHz (Core Prescott).

The notebook is an Acer Travelmate 2500.

can I put notebook's CPU in my other PC?
the two CPU have the same socket

That board supports Prescott CPU's but it may require a BIOS update.

A Prescott will run hotter, need decent cooling, and consume more power.

It might help if you had the precise Intel part numbers (eg; SL76Y format).

Be aware that some laptop vendors have been known to solder in their processors. I don't know if that practice is still done today, but it was somewhat common with older laptops.

Bios is updated to version 1021.005 (last version), it should be ok.
Cooling should be ok too :)

tomorrow i'll try to replace the Northwood CPU
