    Sata/IDE to USB cable

I bought one of these today off eBay but then noticed the description says not comparable with vista and windows 7. But surely windows 7 should just find it on its own? Please let me know ASAP as I'm worrying I bought wrong one.
    Thanks kent.

I never heard of cables being differentiated by operating system.

Does it work for your intended purpose? I'm guessing you are using it to transfer data between drives?

Yeah I will be using it to transferre data. It should arrive tomorrow (fingers crossed) id of thought something like this should work between them all as they're just same as a USB memory stick. But on the description it's says not conpatable with vista or 7. I've emailed the seller asking him. But suppose I'll have to wait for when it comes.

According to this write-up you should be OK: USB to IDE & SATA Cable Kit USBNow.co.uk

Are you transferring data from say, a windows XP drive to a Windows 7 drive?

If so, you need to be careful if you are asked to initialize (mount) the drive, which may result in data loss.

From what I've seen there maybe an adapter/card that's in between the devices which may require a driver ... maybe they don't have compatible drivers for win7 yet but it may still work, give it a go ... sorry couldn't be of more help

Ok thanks for the heads up seavixen. I'll have a play with it before I use
It on a clients hard drive. I think it will work but like poo man said could just be a driver for the card that isn't comparable but I'll have to see. If it comes tomorrow I'll have a play and let you all know how it goes on.
    Thanks kent.

    You're welcome Kent.

It wasn't difficult, you'd signed your post with your name. :)

As for Vista I think Google would be your best bet.
