HP 1050 Deskjet - Unable to Scan (Scanner Unreachable)

    Hi,

Have bought a new laptop, ASUS and have hooked up my HP 1050 Deskjet - Printer/Scanner. (Have had no issues with Printer/Scanner with previous laptop!)

The operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
There is no problems with Printing, but when trying to scan I get a message that says Scanner communication cannot be established.

I have tried un installing and re installing. Have even gone through everything with HP Tech support to no avail, as when doing a test of sorts there seems to be an issue with the WIA?

    Any Ideas?
    Thanks.

Are you scanning with the buttons on the unit or through the HP software?

Have you checked HP for latest software for your scanner?

Have you tried scanning through other software, e.g. The Gimp, or IrfanView, or your word processor software?

Hello seachelle. Sorry to hear you're having problems.

Did HP tech support have you reinstall the drivers for your 1050? I have an older Lexmark all in one. When I first connected it to my Windows 7 64-bit computer, several components didn't work. I went to the Lexmark website, locate the 64-bit drivers and reinstalled. I didn't uninstall the original drivers. Just installed right over them. I got a prompt that the drivers were already installed and I needed to uninstall to avoid conflicts. I ignored the warning, did the installation and when finished, everything worked. If you try this, create a restore point just in case you have to restore your system.

    Hi There,

Yes HP Support helped me with re installation, and we did what we call a work around, trying to scan through Paint and other options but nothing worked. Spent a whole hour on the phone with HP, I believe they did everything possible but appears to be something with the WIA, what ever that is!

If you have any further ideas, would appreciate your input.

Thank you for posting a reply.

I found this older thread concerning a problem with Windows 7 recognizing an HP Laserjet 1020. One suggestion was to try using Compatibility Mode.

    Compatibility Mode

The solution that eventually worked came in post # 9. I realize you're not using a Laserjet but the steps given might work for you as well.

Thank you once again for posting. I eventually took printer in to a tech guy, when he went to scan it worked! So annoying as everything he did, I had already done! Thanks again.

Glad to hear your printer is working now.

Sometimes I think computers and all of the add-ons like printers, external hard drives, etc get together and work up ways to make our lives miserable.
