    DriveImage XML

I backup up my C drive using DriveImage XML and when I went to restore it I got a message saying "Target must not be a system drive" so if this software don't restore the C drive what good is it?

You can't restore to what it thinks is your active drive. I don't know what method you used, but typically, you'd use a boot cd or usb, run DIXML, which prompts for the back up source and destination. If the back up is on the drive you're restoring to it won't work. Copy it to another location, USB or LAN share.
