problem with Dell Synaptic TouchPad in Win7

    Hi all,

I'm new here and I don't know if this thread is posted in right place but I would like to ask you about my problem.

I have a Dell Studio XPS 1640 and it has a Synaptic Dell Touchpad feature installed in the laptop. When I was still in Vista, the function "Disable Touchpad/Pointing Stick when external USB mouse is present" is working well.

But after I upgraded into Window 7 7600 RTM, this function caused a problem. Event when I do not connect any USB mouse, the Touchpad still not active again, and there is still message from the software says that "There is an external USB mouse connection".

I have tried to reinstall the driver from Dell.com but no use. And somebody suggest me to use Synaptic driver but it does not has this function.

Can you guys help me this problem. Thanks a lot.

Morning and welcome to seven forums

I also have a dell with synaptic touchpad and the function works on mine. I think one of the issues is the driver you are using but I dont know since you haven't filled out your system specs. could you click on the link in the lower left corner and fill them out. Also are you running 32bit or 64? the other issue may be the "upgrade" install from vista to win 7. MS and most of us here strongly recommend against it for just this kind of problem
