which ram to buy for laptop

    hi all.
i have to put some more ram in my daughters win7 x32 laptop. at the min it only has 1gb (bought with 1gb installed). this is the stock ram elpida 1Gb 2Rx16 PC3-8500s-7-10-A1. i want to put 4GB in it. i know under 3GB will b usable. 3 is better than 1 lol.
this is the ram i plan on using. 2x 2GB Hypertec Hyperam (1x2GB) DDR3 PC3-8500 1066Mhz SODIMM Laptop Memory / RAM - Aria Technology

i think its ok but am not 100% sure.

Use Crucial's memory scanner for accurate advice as to what extra RAM you can install.

    You're very welcome.

As you rightly pointed out, you won't get the full benefit of 4 GB on a 32-bit sysyem, but 3.25 GB is better than the 1 GB on your daughter's computer at the moment.

which ram to buy for laptop

Can you tell me which machine are you currently using? You need to figure if your laptop supports the latest RAM configuration. If it does, then go for the latest DDR3 memory. That's your best bet.

alright folks. i bought the ram on the day i started this thread. i bought 4GB of crucial ddr3 as it was only £22. i didnt need anythin special as it was only going in my 10 yr old daughters acer extensa lappy. i know that win7 x32 will only use around 3GB but for some reason its only recognizing 2GB

cheers for the replies tho folks

    hi all
sorry to revive this old post but i can figure out why this laptop will only see 1.93GB of the 4GB i installed. i know windows x32 will only see just under 3GB. in the bios it says 1.93GB too but i cant chnage any settings in the bios as its only a cheap lappy. any ideas folks???
as always any help is much apreciated. cheers

edit: scrap that lmao. one of the sticks wasnt in properly. now its showing the 4GB installed n 2.93GB usable.
