Printer won't print queue until I shut down computer

Printer (Lexmark X2600) used to work fine. Now computer is sending print jobs to the print queue but nothing gets printed until I shut down the computer. Then everything in the queue prints out. The machine and printer belong to a puter-phobic friend of mine. The CPU is a fairly cheapo "emachine", several years old, w/Windows 7.
    Thanks!

Hello June, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if clearing and resetting the printer queue may help in case it may be corrupted. :)

    Hope this helps,

    Thanks Shawn,
I'll give that a try this weekend. It's a hassle trying to work on someone else's machine 20 miles away. But I'd really like to get it working for her. I noticed that I could delete all the jobs in the queue but one - maybe clearing it is the key.

My friend's printer is working! I didn't get to try your directions - by the time I got to her place the printer wasn't working at all. It gave a different error message each time we tried it. Ended up uninstalling/deleting everything printer related and had to run the install disc 5 times, trying different variations, before the files finally downloaded correctly (really - how hard can it be to install a printer!?). Thank you very much for your detailed help. I'm saving the info on printer queues for future reference and hope I can pick your brain when I have problems in the future.
