2TB Hard Drive Format Time?

I got a Western Digital 2TB Green Hard Drive and for some reason I can't seem to format it properly. I used Windows Disk Management and Partition Wizard and on one it takes a long time to format and on Partition Wizard, it stops at 90% complete and then just hangs there. Is this a bad drive or what should I do to format it?

This is on Windows 7 Professional x64.

You have 2 format options -

1. Quick Format which is very short because it writes only the control records

2. Full format which is long (and for a 2TB disk VERY long) because it writes the blocks on the disk

What you encounter may indicate a hardware problem, e.g. a defective sector. I suggest you run chkdsk /r in elevated cmd.

Yeah I was thinking it might be a defective sector. Well, it seems to have finished formatting and it appears to be working properly, but I get a notification from Windows that there is a problem with the hardware.

I'm going to do the check right now to see if there is anything wrong with the disk.
