Hi Barca4life, You could try downloading this little test program Download H2testw 1.4 Free - Check your USB for errors with this tool. - Softpedia this will see if the flashdrive can be saved or if it's totally defunct

STOP. This is what I read in the readme file of H2testW.

"BUT: _If_ the hardware is defective then H2testw is designed to find
that defect and might as a side effect damage existing files.
Therefore: IF YOU SUSPECT A USB STICK OR OTHER STORAGE MEDIA TO BE
DEFECTIVE, EMPTY IT AND TEST IT COMPLETELY WITH H2TESTW."

I would therefore think that your first priority should be to recover the data and not damage it.

Does it show up in Computer?

Does it show up in the Device Manager under Portable Devices?

Does it show up in the Disk Management?

Do you get any error message when you try to accass it?

Do other flash drives work in your computer or this is the only one that refuses?

You should let us know what exactly is happening.

    Hi Jumanji,

I know I'm not the post owner and this originally was posted half a year ago but think my problem is similar:

My USB stick is recognized by the operating system (Windows XP and Windows 7)
Shows up in device manager but under USB Controllers, portable devices is empty
Shows up in disk management as D: but no support
Display error "Insert a disk into unit D:" when trying to access it
All other usb flash devices works well on this 2 computers

It seems that the USB stick as some how loose the connection to memory chips.
Do you know any utility to initialise USB drives from the scratch?

    regards,
    Digigato
