Devices and Printers in Window 7

My first question is if a device in this case is a SD Card shows up in Device Manager, but DOESN'T show up in Devices and printers, is this something to worry about? I installed the drivers from Dell for my built in card reader in my notebook. Then I put a new SD Card into the drive. Everything worked/works fine. It shows up in my Device Manager, and all over the place. However, the one place it doesn't show up in is the Device and Printer section. Any clue on why not? Thanks

If you look in Computer, you will see it under Devices with Removal Storage. It will have the same icon as a hard drive, because although the SD card can be removed, the card reader can't.

The Devices & Printers folder shows hardware such as your printer, external hard drives etc..

Providing the device shows up in Device Manager the card reader is working OK and you have nothing to worry about.

    If I may elaborate:

What is important to remember here is how the terminology is used, and seavixen has touched on that, see underlined.

What's not in Devices and Printers Devices and Printers doesn't display:

    • Devices installed inside your computer case, such as internal hard drives, disc drives, sound cards, video cards (graphics cards), memory (RAM), processors, and other internal computer components.
    • Speakers connected to your computer with conventional speaker wires. (USB and wireless speakers can be displayed.)
    • Certain older devices, such as keyboards and mice connected through a PS/2 or serial port.

Source: Install, view, and manage your devices and printers
This can also be found in the View Help section of Devices and Printers
Card Readers would be considered a device installed inside the computer case.

When I plug my Digital camera in it will show in Devices and Printers, and I can extract my photos from there or Explorer.

If I pull the SD Card from the camera, and insert it into the SD slot on my machine it will not show in Devices and Printers. Instead Live Photo Gallery will open, and I can extract, and import the photos from there.
