How do I 'manually' open up a usb folder?

So I have a 16 GB Cruzer USB and it's not connecting, recognizing, nothing. Usually, the usb stick lights up, but it's not even doing that.

I remember a couple of years ago I had this problem, I looked up a solution and was able to open the usb up by going through... aghh this is what I can't remember.

It's manually opening up the usb by going through some 'coding'-ish steps.

The screen I used to type in the coding was black, with white text.

I think I remember typing in dmnt.mgt (Not exactly it but kind of like that??)

Either way.. how can I open up my usb? :<

    Please and thank you~

well if you want that screen you are talking about just go to the search box in the start bar and type cmd then hit enter.

As for the specific steps you are talking about I'm afraid I've never seen those steps. The device should be lighting up even if the computer is not detecting it.

Was it perhaps mmc devmgmt.msc ? If so, that is just the command line for the Device Manager. If the USB doesn't light up. Try it on another USB port, one on the back, for instance. A Guy

Also, does the USB stick indicate that it is Generation 3, or G3? And how old is your computer?

(this is a long shot - related to a similar problem I ran across recently. I have older W7 computers that will not recognize these G3 sticks which are recognized in newer PCs).

Have you tried leaving it in and restarting the computer?

Did you try the flash drive on another PC? What is the result?

Do you have any data on it which you would like to recover?

Formatting it with HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool Download HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool 2.2.3 Free - Windows-based Format Utility for HP Drive Key or DiskOnKey USB Device - Softpedia should in most cases resolve any issue with a pendrive. You may try.
