I guess they wouldn't provide them without a reason. Apart from the Marvell I have Intel 4x 3Gb/s + 2x 6Gb/s which seems plenty.

Last Benchmark for this SSD for the AS SSD fans.

FYI- OP'ed 12GB per Samsung Magician software. So about 107GB is usable.

Looks good. Who cares what the numbers are if you are happy with the performance.

Vertex 3 Raid0 and Vertex 4 Raid 0

Here are some numbers for my SSD's. I started with the Crucial C300 when they first came out and still has Firmware 002 in it. Never saw a reason to update the firmware.

I recently bought a single Vertex 3 250G then decided to get another one. to run in Raid 0.
I also got 2 Vertex 4 256G to try them in Raid as well.

I am a really dissapointed at the Vertex 4 Raid compared to the Vertex 3 Raid. Besides the numbers, the Vertex 3 seems to have a little better performance.

I am really amazed at the C300 as I have never done a secure erase and it seems to be a little faster now as opposed to when I first bought it.
The only thing I did was to get it to work under Raid in bios. I had originally set the bios to AHCI.
I tried the registry change thing which should have worked as it has worked in the past but for some reason, it didn't work with this one. All I was getting is the Windows logo, then reboot, over and over.

After several days of trying I finally loaded an earlier image, got it to boot, then loaded a differential image to bring it up to the present.

BTW, I am using Intel RSTe drivers for the Raid systems version 3.0.0.2020.

Intel's 11.5 RST drivers that is supposed to pass Trim does not work with the Alpha version from what I have read.
The latest version on Station-Drivers is 11.5.0.1347.
intel drivers pour Raid/Sata/Ata/Ahci

I think I have to wait until Asus releases a chipset driver that will work with the released Intel drivers that pass trim.
Does anyone know about this?

This is interesting. The 4K write performance of the Vertex3 single is better than the Vertex3 Raid. I wonder why.

I am not sure either. I did update the firmware on the Vertex 3's before I put it into raid though.

On the OCZ forum and they say that the V4 is a much better drive than the V3.
I think they are a little biased of their new flagship drive.
After I posted my thoughts about the two, I was told I may want to update the firmware to 1.4R and also that the X79 platform is what may be holding it back.
Huh, what?

I guess that is possible but I highly doubt it. I am running the same drivers on the V3 as the V4 and the numbers do not lie. Granted they change with each run but the V4 is consistantly lower than the V3 in Raid. The V3 is a Sandforce controller and the V4 is Indilux Infused (whatever that is).

There are others on that forum who get better scores than mine though.

One thing about the Crucial C300, the first test iin 2010 was on the Marvel ports and the latest is on the Intel ports. I wonder what the test would have been in 2010 if I had used the intel ports. Probably a lot higher than they are now.
Edit: Nevermind. That board was a P6X58D-E and the intel ports were SataII and not SataIII. The board only had two Sata III ports and they are Marvel. I retested it on my new board Sabertooth X79 using the Intel SataIII ports.

The one good thing besides the confusing nums is that in real life it probably makes very little difference. A little more or a little less in R/W times is hardly measurable during daily operations.

I totally agree.

There are some questions I have about the alignment though. Is there an alignment number that is better than the rest?

If so, how would I change the alignment number?

I plan on imaging the Vertex4 tonight and start from scratch with both the Vertex4 array and the Vertex3 array. I need to be consistant with the tests.
That is why I am asking about the alignment.

I just added another ssd to my system, a crucial 256gb m4.
Reads and writes are pretty good, 509/276
The 128 m4 is only 495/176.
