I saw the cheapest 256gb SSD I have ever seen in the UK yesterday £99.95 ($160) for a Corsair Performance Pro 256GB 2.5" SATA-III.

I am amazed how low the prices are now!
Well I guess you better email me a pair of them.

    Hi,

Because here eveyone are on SSDs and I'm still in HDD, I would like to put you a question

    Anyone installed any SSD in a Toshiba Tecra R840 (win7Pro 64bit, 8GRam, I7-2640, 500GB HDD)?
I'm seaching for any incompatibility between this laptop and any ssd in the market!

Money is no problem, I really would like to have the most reliable one in my Tecra! (for speed it would be just a few sec more or less and that is not a big problem)!

    Thanks,
    paulo

I installed an OCZ Vertex in a Toshiba Laptop without any problems. I think any 2.5" SSD from any reputable make should work.

    Hi whs,

Now I found good reviews in the Plextor M3Pro!!!

But I want a big drive and I would like to have your opinion because it seems that the big brother (512GB) is slower that the little one (256 GB)! Why this? What will perform best?

    Regards,
    paulo

The new Plextor M5 Pro is out and about now, and while it doesn't smoke the M3 Pro, it is using the new Marvell controller and I'm interested to see how Plextor works with that new controller. The M3 Pro had a few years worth of firmware revisions for the old Marvell controller, and the proof was in the pudding. Plus, the M5 Pro is on Newegg right now for $129.99, which is about $30 cheaper than the M3 Pro was when they carried it. I have a feeling the M5 Pro is going to be as reliable as the Samsung 830 and it already looks like it might be a shade faster.......just waiting until they have time to massage the firmware for the new controller!

As far as I can tell, the speeds are appr. the same. See in the links under 'Details'.

Well I've already said I'm not an expert
I saw that Random Read/Write speed IOPS are very different from the 256 and 512 model! Whats is the meaning of that?
    512 GB model

    Ran. Read Speed (IOPS 4K)
    Up to 56,000 IOPS
    Ran. Write Speed (IOPS 4K)
    Up to 34,000 IOPS

    256 GB model

    Ran. Read Speed (IOPS 4K)
    Up to 75,000 IOPS
    Ran. Write Speed (IOPS 4K)
    Up to 68,000 IOPS

Correct, the IOPS are different. The MB/sec are appr. the same. In real life, you will probably hardly notice any difference.
