Open up a command prompt. Type ...

    mmc devmgmt.msc

Are there any warnings for your optical drive?

    Okay,

I looked on one of my 2003 servers - and this is what I found in help:

To share a drive or folder on the network

    1. Open Windows Explorer, and then locate the drive or folder you want to share.
    2. Right-click the drive or folder, and then click Sharing and Security.
      • If you are sharing a drive, on the Sharing tab, click If you understand the risk but still want to share the root of the drive, click here.
      • If you are sharing a folder, go to the next step.

    3. Do one of the following:
      • If the Share this folder on the network check box is available, select the check box.
      • If the Share this folder on the network check box is unavailable, this computer is not on a network. If you would like to set up a home or small office network, click the Network Setup Wizard link and follow the instructions to turn on file sharing. Once file sharing is enabled, begin this procedure again.
Argh... can't access a 2008 server from home right now. But I would imagine it's the same thing.

And I'm sure that's what you have done.

So you CAN access the optical drive from the server?

But cannot access the server's optical mapped V: drive from the clients?

I don't understand you statement, ".. but when i uninstall the device and refresh it,, it works well once i log off or switch the user it turn back to access is denied ." Would you be able to elaborate?

It's not about Sharing Security .. i am talking about the Optical Drive on the Mahcine .. that double click on it .. Access is Denied .. when i said i Uninstalled it and Reinstalled it .. i meant the DVD/CD Device .. that i uninstalled it from Devices Manager and i reinstalled it .. and it work fine but once i log off or switch the user ,, the problem back again Access is Denied .. i tested something on one pc .. i Reinstall a new OS and the Drive work fine .. so befor i upgrade the server form 2003 to 2008 R2 the Optical devices been working well on all clients but after upgrade this problem appears .. i am not sure whats happened.. but does this have anything with the Upgrade ,, ??

Okay, so when you are on the 2008 server, and double click on the optical drive, you receive the message "access is denied". At first, I thought you meant clients from other PCs were not able to access the server's optical drive.

What is the make and model of the optical drive?

Take a look at Event Viewer and look at different logs for any relevant error messages.

When you installed the driver, are you installing it as administrator?

And when you say switching users, you mean logging out and logging back on the 2008 server, correct? I want to make sure no client PCs are involved.

Well all the problem exists in the Clients PCs .. in their PCs ... nothing has to do with the Server .. Sorry if i misunderstood you .. but i mean the problem exist since i upgrade my 2003 to 2008 R2 .. this only point about the server here and the real problem in the client's pcs .. yea i uninstalled it as a Admin and when i log off and log on back it says Access is Denied again .. i looked at the Event i figured nothing ..

    Solved

First : Uninstall the device .
    Second : Clear the Register
3rd : Change the device cable place .

    Done
