    Windows 7 USB Mouse freezes

    Hello,

I was using Windows 7 for few weeks already and now mouse started freezing for few seconds pretty often. After mouse unstucks, there is a sound like new devise is plugged in. I was trying to search any solutions @ google, but couldnt find any, except that other people also have same problem (mainly on windows vista). Im using simple USB mouse, tried to update various drivers but says that they are all up to date. Any tips?

Do you have any other mouse to try? It looks like a bad contact. I take it is a wired mouse, right?

i have the same exact problem but i can seem to only find a temporarily fix. it just seem windows 7 device driver installation keep installing the Mouse or any USB device wrong.

    what you do is --

    - go to device manager > universal human interface > you should see "USB HUB ROOT" with yellow triangles
    - right click all of them one by one and uninstall
    - restart and go into safe mode and windows shall install it correctly
    - restart and it should work

.. the downer .. is that the problem will still occur when you plug in another usb and windows will reinstall all usb and install them incorrectly so you will have to keep re doing it. yeah its a pain sometimes

    Same problem

I started getting this same thing a couple days ago. I do not have any yellow warnings in my device manager. My mouse is USB but I'm not sure it's related to the mouse. I ran a video while moving the mouse around and the video did not freeze while the mouse was frozen. I also do get that bee-boop sound when the mouse unsticks. And sometimes I get the sound a few times in a row. I've been running win7 for about 3 months now and have not had this problem. I have uninstalled several programs and stopped anything I could from running in the background and it still does it. I get no indication that anything is wrong. Very annoying problem.

Update: I thought I'd try to rule out the mouse, so I plugged it directly into the usb port on my computer. It is now not giving me the freeze/bee-bop. I guess it is some kind of bad connection. I don't get any yellow device warnings but there must be some problem. I am using the mouse through a IOGear DVI KVM. I have two computers I switch between and have been using this since before installing windows 7, about 6 months. Maybe there is a problem with the KVM.

HI Steve, welcome to the forums
Have you updated the drivers for your switch?

There are no drivers for a KVM. To problem is also on my other computer which is XP, so it looks like my problem is a hardware issue.

I really don't know the product, but a quick search at IOGear's page showed they offer drivers. No idea what your is, so I don't know if it is applicable.

my mouse goes off the screen and selects other stuff on its own and my remote settings are all disabled. my mouse also freezes way too much and the only thing i can do is figure out the equal keyboard strokes or else reboot. i reinstalled my system like over 5 times this year. i might go back to xp! Windows 7 have a lot of cool features but only at the price of loosing your peace of mind

    :) O.K. so here's what i did:

    Steps:
    1. Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Mouse (under Devices and Printers)
    2. Buttons Tab: speed was set 1 point beyond halfway so i moved it backward to halfway (default setting may have been too fast)
    3. Looked at Pointer's Tab but didn't touch anything
    4. Pointer's Options Tab: Set Pointer Speed (in Motion box) is set at halfway and Enhance pointer precision box is checked; Hide pointer while typing (in Visibility box) is checked; nothing else was set or checked. Clicked Apply to Finish and closed out.

After this i continued to have a similar experience, so i went back to Step 1. above and continued with the following Steps:

    5. Wheel Tab: Roll the wheel one notch to scroll: The following number of lines at a time: is set to 1 (in the Vertical scrolling box); likewise, Tilt the wheel to scroll the following number of characters at a time: is set to 1. Clicked Apply to Finish and closed out.

Problem seems to have disappeared so i think it was the Wheel Tab settings making my mouse hyper Hope this helps somebody!
