can i upgrade to SSD and not re-install windows?

plain and simple. if i get an SSD, do i HAVE to reinstall windows 7? or is there a way i can just plug it in, and change which hard drive is the boot drive and C:?

how difficult and painful will it be? i just really don't want to have to re-do all my settings and personal preferences.

You can, but for me personally, I'd feel better knowing it was a fresh install. If you plan ahead, you can make that a quick and painless process.
