    Linux Partition Not Displaying, Inaccessible

I upgraded my system from Windows Vista to Win 7, 32bit professional edition. I had a partition set aside for Linux Ubuntu. Now, I cannot access Linux from the boot menu, as I used to. It is still listed as an option at boot, but highlighting it and hitting return/enter just causes a black screen.

When I go to the disk management tool, the partition isn't displayed (screenshot attached). I have also gone in through command prompt---diskpart----list volume, but that doesn't show it either. I know it is still there, because I have a 120GB hard drive, and if you add up all the partitions that disk manager lists, it is short of 120GB.

I am trying to delete the Linux partition entirely. I have thought about just formatting my HDD and starting over, but I only have the 'upgrade' windows CD and am afraid I won't be able to re-install windows. Any help is much appreciated.

Also, when I launch msconfig and go to the boot menu, the windows partition (C) is the only one shown.

The HDDs size you are getting displayed is the size using binary multiples. You have the entire 120 GB intact, and there is an unpartitioned space 1.34 GB .

How have you installed Linux earlier ? If using WUBI ... upgradation to Windows 7 may have removed it, so nothing to be worried I think. At that point there is no need to reinstall windows.

If you need, you may create a partition in the unpartitioned space, and merge it with another partition.

I see where I have 1.34gb of free space, but if I add up everything in the 'capacity' column, shouldn't get something close to 120GB? It only adds up to 110.442GB, and I know my Linux partition was ~10GB.

In the past, when I installed Ubuntu, I burned the files onto a CD from the web, repartitioned my hard drive, and then installed it off the CD into the new partition.

The Ubuntu partition is not there at all, and the space the HDD shows is fairly normal .

The binary transformation makes a difference there with the actual capacity and the reported capacity.

EDIT : A nice explanation is here : Where Are All My Gigs?

So, as I see, it is OK .
