Beware of the OCZ Vertex Plus 1VTXPL120G A friend of mine had purchased that 120GB OCZ Vertrex Plus for a good price from TigerDirect. He asked me to transfer his Windows 7.
In total I made six (6) attempts without success - total of 20 hours of work. Two attempts were with the Paragon Migration Tool which ended up with a SSD full of nothing.
Then I did it the traditional way - define an aligned partition with Diskpart, format and dump an image. Macrium already gave up in the middle of two image restoration attempts. Two other attempts were successful and I was able to boot into Windows 7 from the SSD. I could even do a little work. But when I rebooted, I got "No operating system found". Upon inspection in an enclosure on one of my systems I saw that the whole SSD was in RAW format.
Then I read the user feedback on the Newegg site (9 pages full) and found that I was not the only one to have this sort of trouble with this SSD. On Monday it will go back to Tigerdirect. Next time my friend will read the reviews first. | My System Specs |

I know this doesn't happen to all but in my own opinion SSD are still too unreliable. I have heard these kinds of story far too often. Good luck though. Have to disagree with broad statement SSDs are unreliable. In fact, there is no evidence this is true. However, knowing Whs's expertise in this area, I have no doubt that particular SSD was a problem. I have to agree with Bill. SSDs are generally very solid. I pioneered SSDs about 4 years ago when I got my first OCZ from Newegg - and that was a bummer too which they quickly exchanged. Since then I never had any problems with OCZ, Intel or Crucial which is my latest (#6) SSD.
But this particular OCZ model seems to have a lot of problems if I go by the 9 pages of user comments on the Newegg site. I guess one has to read the reviews before buying. Unfortunately my friend did not do that. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

My three drives, most recent first:
Corsair Force GT 120GB, 14/241 (6%).
OCZ Vertex 3 has 540 reviews, 108 (20%).
Crucial CT128M225 3/47 (6%).
No problems here with any of them. Corsair and Crucial seem to be rock solid. With OCZs, you have to really look closely. Most are good but some are bad. My 3 OCZ Vertex (2 and 3) all work well. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 Beware of the OCZ Vertex Plus 1VTXPL120G problems?
