Want to upgrade to 8GB RAM is my computer compatible ?

Hi ,
I want to upgrade to 8GB RAM (Now I'm using 1 GB RAM)
I want to know if my computer compatible with 8GB or not !
my friend told me that it depends on the processor ... Does it ??

Info:
Windows 7 professional
Processor : Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 900 @ 2.20GHz 2.19 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 1.00 GB
System type: 32-bit operating system

I'm sorry if the info is not enough I don't know what is the important info to tell !!

The CPU itself is 64 bit capable,

Intel® Celeron® Processor 900 (1M Cache, 2.20 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)

but seeing it is a socket 478 CPU, it all comes down to what the motherboard will support; one bit of info you left out. Also as long as you are running 32 bit Windows anything beyond 3 GB is essentially a waste as 32 bit Windows can only use up to 4 GB, and you will lose some of that due to memory addressing of all devices in and on the motherboard.

I don't know where to find motherboard information ( How?)

Do you recommend upgrading to 64x and then use 8GB RAM ,, or I just change to 4GB ??

I'm having fears upgrading to 64x ( cause I had issue when I first install windows 7 ,, Is it possible to upgrade without format ??

This should show what the make and model of the motherboard is,

I wouldn't worry about 8 GB of ram and 64 bit until we know whether the motherboard can even support it.

No, you can't upgrade from 32 to 64 bit without a re-install. You also can't use 32 bit drivers on a 64 bit system, so you may want to make sure you can get 64 bit drivers for all your hardware before you go that route.
