SD Card does not mount after reinsert

I did a search but it didn't turn up anything so I'm hoping someone here can help. My SDHC (4GB) card is read fine and mounted correctly when I boot Windows with the card in. However if I remove it (always safely!) then insert it back I hear the sound from Windows as if it recognizes a new device has been found but the card isn't mounted and there is no way to access the card again. I have to reboot.

Does anyone know of a solution to this?

    Thanks!

    Hello jbum

I have a similar problem I use a USB card reader. When I insert the card then the reader the card is recognised If I do it the other way around its not.
I have only two answers to this one is to unplug my USB reader and plug it in again. The other is to log off and back on again. Its inconvenient to log off but far better than a new start.
It is not a cure I know but I hope this helps you. :)

Solution: I had the identical problem. I kept trying to update the USB driver and the operating system said it was up to date. However when I did a scan of my drivers it showed the driver was not up to date. When I downloaded the recommended drivers (INTEL 82801G Controllers 27C9, 27CA, 27CB, 27C8 and 27CC) and installed each one the problem was solved.

How did you scan for drivers? I installed what showed in Windows Update as the latest SD Card Reader and it still did that.

Can you elaborate the steps I can use to scan for drivers up-to-date-ness?

SD Card does not mount after reinset

Problem: When the SD Memory card is first inserted into the computer port, it brings up the driver and the photo directory is available as expected, However, if you take the SD memory card out and without re-booting the computer, re-insert the SD Card back in the operating system, the operating system does not show the drive even though you can hear a tone indicating the system has recognized the insertion of the drive but you cannot see the drive or the files.

    Solution:
    1. Insure that you have the updated drivers for the operating system. The Windows operating system says that the drivers were up to date but an independent tool I used (Parento Logic) is the one I used, said otherwise. I installed the recommended drivers to ensure the drivers were up to date.
    2. It was also necessary to change the properties of the driver. This is done by inserting the SD memory card in the computer input port, right mouse click on disk drive assigned by operating system, click on properties, click on hardware, click on SD memory card, click on properties, under menu “General” click on “Change Settings”, click menu polices, click on “Removal Policy” and then click on “Quick removal”.
